Psalm 100:5 (msg)

For God is Sheer Beauty

All generous in love

Loyal, forever and always

How many times have you looked a mirror and thought “I wish I was more beautiful…”, or “if this was different, then I would be more perfect…” The truth is, we probably think those words more times than we want to admit.  Being beautiful does have to do with looks, however, there is no formula that you find in a magazine or boutique that makes you pop out all drop dead gorgeous. No such perfection exists. Let me paint a picture for you of what I think beauty truly is.

Beauty:

Noun-

·         A combination of qualities, such as shape, color, esp. the sight.

·         A combination of qualities that pleases the intellect or moral senses.

Synonyms- belle, pulchritude, fairness, prettiness

Beauty is a compilation of so many things wrapped up into one extreme being. My beauty is not the same as your beauty. My collection of qualities make me unique, and while yes, I am a girl and probably like the same things other girls like, I am not the same as them. Beaut is designed to make everyone shine differently. Not one person has the same DNA, we all have makeup bags, but guaranteed not all the products contained in it will be the same. How is it that we allow the media and society to decide what beauty looks and feels like when not one person is formed the same?
The definition of beauty itself explains how it’s an attraction of all the senses. That means it’s of the heart as well as the physical. You can’t just look good and carry the true meaning of beauty, and it’s hard to do good deeds and be looked on as beauty. This word is a well-rounded, and complex description. It is something women strive for every single minute of every day. Wanting to be beautiful is not a crime. Take joy in being a woman. Learn to love your features and abilities. We were designed to walk in the beauty God created us in. If we are images if the one true God, why is it so hard for us to believe we are capable of being beautiful. Beauty is made to aesthetically please all senses. This generation has twisted the purity of what God has ordained it to be. He created Eve in the garden. It was all beauty. He has created women specifically to be well-rounded, complex, adventurous, tender, and strong. We capture the wonder of Christ just by being alive. Gold is proved pure gold when it goes through the fire, beauty is tested by the heart and is proven on the appearance. When you wear a bright red lip, or a sassy dress, don’t be discouraged if someone calls you beautiful because of what you are wearing. Your appearance is revealing that you love being a woman, you embrace the form, color, and qualities God has sculpted you with. I’m not saying red lipstick makes you look beautiful, but I am saying when your heart is right, and you are choosing to embrace yourself as a daughter of the King, then wearing whatever you want won’t be an issue. It’ll be an accessory. So next time you look in the mirror, don’t just look at what’s going on outside, seek out what God already knows. You are beautifully, fearfully, and wonderfully made.
xoxo Britt
